Sorting Out Stress, the Nervous System, and Staying Grounded in Session
Have you ever gone home from a session replaying every moment and wondering, Did I do something wrong? What could I have done differently to help? If your answer is yes, join us as we explore how to sort out stress, support your nervous system, and stay grounded in the work you love.
We are therapists because we care deeply about our clients—but sometimes stress dims our light. A client’s story can land as tightness in your chest, a hit in your gut, or a foggy feeling in your head. You may walk out of a session replaying every moment, feeling heavy, confused, or exhausted.
These are not signs of failure. They are clues that something in you is being echoed in the room, and you have the power to change your relationship to that stress.
In this practical, experiential lunch-and-learn, we’ll explore three embodied tools to help you work with your nervous system instead of feeling overwhelmed by it:
A 20-second nervous system check-in to notice what’s happening in your body before it snowballs.
A self-inquiry exercise to discover “Whose stress is this?” so you can sort out what belongs to you, what belongs to your client, and what lives in the space between you.
A set of in-session micro-resets you can use to ground and re-center while staying present and connected to your client.
You’ll leave with simple, repeatable practices you can bring into your very next session.
